Many stationary brands prefer flat and attractive logos to gain the attention of customers. Designers will have to take their preference in mind while designing their logos.
Step 1: Creating new file:
Open Photoshop file and once the program is up in running then create a new file by clicking on file then press new or use shortcut key Ctrl + N. After that set the height to 600 px and width to 400px which is 600 by 400 and then click on OK.
Step 2: Set Background Color:
After setting the dimensions set background color so that the audience can see your logo better. To set background color is set by creating a new layer and naming it to let’s say “bkg” and then fill that layer with color#316479.
Step 3: Add Gradient effect:
After setting the background color, gradient effect should be added to add more depth and dynamic to the background. This will be done by setting the background color to #ffffff and leave the foreground as it is. Then double click on “bkg” layer you created before so that blending options dialogue menu can be opened and in their select gradient overlay box and change the color in the gradient editor box to reflect the color of your choice. Check the reverse box and change the gradient mode to multiply and gradient style to radial.
Press OK to apply the changes
Step 4: Design Custom Logo Body
For designing logo body make a new layer pick a name for this logo body. The foreground color should be changed to #ffca29 and then by using rectangular marquee tool create a tall rectangle shape in the middle of the canvas and then fill it with the color of the choice.
Step 5: Adjusting rectangular shape to a Pocket body
The rectangular shape needs to be adjusted now and we have to make the bottom part of the rectangle into a pocket body. In this process, we will use the polygonal lasso tool and select the rectangle from its bottom left corner and make a triangle section from the tool.
After making a triangular section press delete to remove the selected area at the bottom left of the rectangle.
Repeat the same step above for the bottom right of the rectangle also and your shape will look like this.
Step 6: Making pocket flap:
Now the upper part of the rectangle shape should be adjusted by using the Polygonal Lasso tool again. A pocket flap should be created on the upper part of the rectangle.
After being satisfied with the shape press V on your keyboard so that the pocket flap can be selected and move the selection upwards so that we can have two distinct shapes.
Step 7: Draw pencil metal:
Traditionally some pencils have a small metal guard so that the eraser remains in place. So we should also create it for our picture. This will be done by creating a new layer called metal and by using rectangular marquee tool create a rectangle with the same width as the pencil and fill it with #b6b6b6.
Step 8: Draw an eraser
Draw an eraser above the metal by changing your foreground to #e59496 and make a new layer called an eraser. You will use a rectangular marquee tool just like you did in drawing a metal on the pencil.
Step 9: Pencil tip:
Now our picture requires a pencil tip. To do that first change the foreground to #000000. After that click on the polygon tool and set the shape to have 3 sides by going to the toolbar and writing 3 on the “side” section.
After that click the arrow given on the starfish type shape for the polygon option and change the radius so that it matches the width of the flat portion at the bottom half of your pocket.
After this step now you can create your triangle.
Step 10: Add groves:
If you want to add groves in your picture to show the lead meets the wood of the pencil then a zig-zag pattern should be created on the bottom half of the pocket with polygonal lasso tool as shown below.
After this process select the highlighted zig zag pattern and delete it so that it looks like the image below.
Now to fill the zig zag gap move the tip layer of the pencil upwards so that it gives a finishing look.
And here you have it a simple logo with a pencil picture however it’s just a basic design to further make it good highlighting tools will be used which can be done using polygonal marque tool.
